#230: Bullet The Blue Sky

It’s almost refreshing to know in this era of tolerance that racism and hatred, in its most extreme form, is far from dead. I was asked to have a look at the latest web-site from that great mob called Australia First, a name which appears to be merely a smokescreen for this nation’s local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. I’m all for multiculturalism, and I’m all for immigration. I’m not for throwing open the countries borders to allow any Thomas, Richard or Harold to walk in as they see fit. I’m also all for controls, if someone is a criminal then send them back. If they destroy their papers then they should have to wait until their identity and background are confirmed, and if all is well, sure, allow them in. We have a large nation with plenty of room, so why not? What I am against is the so called ‘white’ nation that wants to remove all traces of immigration and only allow the British to enter freely. Anyone with a tinted skin are not allowed, well, excuse my Frog, fuck that and fuc...

Only in Adelaide could you find a book as good as this, and only Adelaide appears to breed such people. I doubt that our pal Martin, a regular reader and contributor to this blog even has this one. Titled, ‘Beyond Backward Masking’ this fine tome is a brilliant study in mid 1980s hippy God bothering paranoia that puts our old pal Norm Barber to shame. Nothing Norm could ever do could reach the heights of the paranoia and lunacy on display here. How good is this book? Well other than the usual suspects such as Led Zeppelin and Queen, this book has studies of speeches by Bob Hawke, Paul Keating, Lindy Chamberlain and Andrew Peacock, along with TV shows (Sesame Street is the tool of the Devil, as is Walt Disney and his frozen head) and much more. Seriously, I love Adelaide stuff like this – we have our own special lunatics. No wonder people think we’re homicidal and yes, these guys are deadly serious. Authors David Oates and Greg Albrecht use cutting edge methods of examination (usu...

Maybe I’m amazed, but I never knew that Abbott & Costello ever toured here, but then I’m sure that loads of people have toured this country that I never knew about, so don’t use me as any form of a touring barometer. Hell, I only found out the other week that Marlene Dietrich popped down to Adelaide in the early 1970s, but that’s why I have an almost unhealthy interest in buying tour programmes and other paper goods. One day I’ll send a few sherpas into my carport and sort out all of the clippings, programmes and other piles and boxes of shit. Hopefully I’ll do it before I cark it, that way I can make some extra cash. Back to Abbott & Costello. Before the comedy team of Tony and Peter came along in the 1990s, these two were the only ones that answered to that name. Fat and Skinny, as we used to call them at primary school, mainly because nobody could correctly differentiate between Bud & Lou and Stan & Oliver, used to crack me up no end. I still love their horr...

Four years after Frank Sinatra – that’s Mr Sinatra to you, punk – first toured Australia he decided to return. Did he miss the people? Nope. Did he miss the countryside? Nah. So what brought him here? Top use a phrase that he often used himself, broads, or, to be specific, one broad. Ava Gardner. Yes, one of the original well stacked women (as they were called back then – now they’re just big titted skanks and hos, but at least Gardner’s nay nays were real and not plastic). Sinatra first met Ava Gardner sometime in 1944 and had a brief fling which had more of an effect upon him than it did her. She was fairly cool to him, probably because he had both a reputation and a reality that surrounded him – he was a notorious womaniser and he was married. Being married didn’t stop, or even slow, Sinatra down much and once he hit Hollywood proper he was spreading himself about like cheap margarine. They were off and on until 1949 when Sinatra had all but announced that he was getting a divorce...
